With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, this week we’re giving you the chance to take home a copy of last year’s romantic hit One Day on Blu-ray.

One of 2011’s most talked about films, One Day stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Emma (Hathaway) and Dexter (Sturgess) meet on the night of their graduation and strike up an unlikely friendship which plays out across twenty years. Visiting their lives on the same day each year, their loves, losses, triumphs and failures are called into question as they navigate their way through life knowing deep down that they belong together.

As usual with Blu-ray Monday, you have two chances to win. For your first entry hit the tweet button at the top of this post. Then for a second entry, leave a comment on this post in response to the following question:

Films with a romantic twist are as popular as ever, and titles such as Mr & Mrs Smith and Knight and Day prove, they certainly aren’t just for girls. This week we’d like to know which actor and actress you’d like to see take the lead roles in a romantic film together. Would you be keen to see a real life couple such as Will and Jada Pinkett Smith or Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen come together on the big screen? Maybe you think Johnny Depp could bring out the wild side in Jennifer Aniston or Bradley Cooper would sweep Carey Mulligan off her feet? Or perhaps you’d like to see one emerging talent paired up with a Hollywood great such as Kristen Stewart and George Clooney or Ryan Gosling and Halle Berry? Either way let us know who you’d like to see and why.

To make it easier for us to contact you, leave your Twitter details with your comment. We look forward to your suggestions!

We were delighted last week to hear that Gary Oldman had received his first ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor in his role as M16 agent George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. So to round up the week, we’re focusing on the best movies which showcase his brilliant acting talents. If you’re stuck for something to watch this weekend why not try out one of the following?

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Released on Blu-ray earlier this week, the movie that saw Oldman scoop his first academy nomination is Tomas Alfredson’s Cold War thriller. Joined by the supreme acting talents of Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong, Oldman leads the acclaimed adaptation based on John le Carré’s spy novel. MI6 agent Smiley (Oldman) investigates intelligence that suggests there is a mole at the centre of the service’s London headquarters and soon finds himself drawn into a web of betrayal and deceit in an effort to unmask the double agent who has fooled him, and his colleagues, for decades. Extras on the Blu-ray include in-depth audio commentaries with Oldman and Alfredson, plus interviews with le Carré and the movie’s screenwriter Peter Straughan. A variety of featurettes give audiences special insights from the stellar cast and Oldman fondly recalls bringing to life one of literature’s most intriguing characters. The ins and outs of Cold War operations, photo galleries and a look at the UK premiere complete the pack.

Leon
Jean Reno stars as a ruthless hit man Leon who forms a close friendship with his orphaned neighbour Matilda (Natalie Portman). Featuring an outstanding portrayal by Oldman as sadistic cop Stansfield, this touching film combines action and remarkable emotion culminating in one of his finest performances to date. The BD includes a retrospective look back at the movie from the cast and crew alongside interesting information regarding the film’s storyline and production. Featurettes on the characters including documentary Jean Reno: The Road to Leon take a close look at each of the main actor’s performances and evolutions throughout the movie.

The Dark Knight / Batman Begins box set
And finally, we couldn’t omit a nod to Oldman’s brilliant turn as Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s re-imagining of the caped crusader’s clashes in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. With a cast comprising of a who’s who of Hollywood such as Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger, these BDs boast action, romance and special effects that are sure to impress. Ledger even scooped an academy award of his own, picking a posthumous Oscar for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Comprising of a feast of extras, the set includes documentaries Gotham Uncovered, Batman Unmasked and Batman Tech, which takes viewers on a 360 degree look at the set design, props, weaponry, stunts and special effects. Multiple interviews with cast and crew on the performances, script and Ledger’s contribution, alongside poster art and production stills, complete the pack.

So what do you think of our choices? Hit the comments to tell us about your favourite Gary Oldman movies, or tell us what else you’ll be looking forward to watching on Blu-ray this weekend.

From the award winning minds behind BBC’s Planet Earth and The Blue Planet, this latest outing takes an epic look at two of the world’s fastest disappearing wildernesses, the Arctic and Antarctic. Breathtaking scenery and heart warming stories of those who inhabit these seemingly uninhabitable corners of the globe, spring to life in glorious HD. Narrated by none other than Sir David Attenborough, the Blu-ray oozes with landscapes so vivid, at times it feels like the icy waters could spill out of your TV and into your living room – making it the perfect addition to any Blu-ray lover’s library.

The 3-disc set includes all seven episodes (accompanied by a video diary for each), featurette ‘On Thin Ice’ and hour long documentary Science at the Ends of the Earth.

Brought to you from the producers of 300, Immortals boasts a star-studded cast including Mickey Rourke, Frieda Pinto and Henry Cavill who, in this role, proved himself worthy of being cast as the next Superman.

Rourke plays King Hyperion who, mad with bloodlust, has declared war on humanity and is hell-bent upon overthrowing the gods.
Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and John Hurt are just a few of the supreme acting talents on show in this acclaimed adaptation of John le Carré’s spy novel. M16 agent Smiley (Oldman) investigates intelligence that suggests there is a mole at the centre of the service’s London headquarters and soon finds himself drawn into a web of betrayal and deceit in an effort to unmask the double agent who has fooled him, and his colleagues, for decades.

As usual with Blu-ray Monday, you have two chances to win. For your first entry hit the tweet button at the top of this post. Then for a second entry, leave a comment on this post in response to the following question:

Packed with mystery and suspense, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy keeps the audience guessing as to who the double agent is and so this week we’d love to know what your favourite mystery movies, or movies with a twist are, and why. Perhaps you’re a fan of indie noirs like Christopher Nolan’s Memento, David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive or Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs? Maybe you’re more intrigued by classic Hollywood plots like Vertigo, North by Northwest or Psycho? Or do you love to relive the unveiling of a character’s true identity in films such as The Usual Suspects, Devil and The Sixth Sense? Let us know what your favourite is to put you in with a chance of winning!

To make it easier for us to contact you, leave your Twitter details with your comment. We look forward to your suggestions!

With the Oscars and BAFTAs just around the corner, and last week’s Golden Globes still fresh in our minds, this week we’re focusing on the best big award winning films on Blu-ray. So if you’re stuck for ideas this weekend, why not try out one of the following?

Saving Private Ryan
Picking up Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs galore, Steven Spielberg’s 1998 World War II picture truly is a masterpiece to behold on Blu-ray. Awarded five stars for its audio and picture quality by Blu-ray.com, this tale of a heroic mission behind enemy lines follows Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squad who are tasked with locating Private Ryan (Matt Damon). Packed with an array of amazing features, such as Looking into the Past, which sets the film’s historical context, and Recreating Omaha Beach, which examines the filming techniques behind the unforgettable opening sequence, viewers have a chance to journey deeper into the film than ever before. Shedding light on Spielberg’s inspirations and fascination with the era, interviews with veterans, historians and the cast on their military training for their roles complete the package.

The Departed
Finally scooping Martin Scorsese his first Oscar for Best Director and another three for Best Picture, Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay, the movie follows the lives of two undercover police officers acting on opposite sides of the law. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg, the tale of violence, bloodshed and identity will leave audiences on the edge of their seats until the very end. Special features include a documentary on the real life Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, who inspired Jack Nicholson’s character, alongside deleted scenes and featurettes focusing on Scorcese himself. Crossing Criminal Cultures explores the director’s fascination with the mafia genre, with comment from an array of stars who have worked with him and archived footage from some of his greatest movies.

Toy Story 1-3 Box Set
Nominated many times and finally achieving Oscar and BAFTA gongs for the third outing in the Best Animated Feature category, there’s no denying the Toy Story movies are amongst the best loved of all time. Brimming with gripping adventure, magnificent satire and lump-in-the-throat nostalgia, the BD box set provides layer after layer of added insight in stunning HD. All three movies follow the adventures of a group of toys led by traditional cowboy doll Woody (Tom Hanks) and futuristic space ranger Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen). A plethora of exclusive extras are spread across the four disc collection, including a look at the original character designs, animation techniques, music and audio, commentaries from the team of writers and directors, as well as shorts introduced by Buzz and a look at the alternative story and concept that was canned in favour of the film we’re all familiar with today.

So what do you think of our choices? Hit the comments to tell us about your favourite award winning films, or tell us what else you’ll be looking forward to watching on Blu-ray this weekend.

A European release is yet to be confirmed, but we’ll let you know when we hear otherwise.

A regular comedy favourite of many, this parody of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail follows the absurd challenges Arthur (Graham Chapman) along with his squire (Terry Gilliam) face in their quest. The Knights of the Round Table, including Sir Bedevere the Wise (Terry Jones), Sir Lancelot the Brave (John Cleese), Sir Galahad the Pure (Michael Palin) and Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot (Eric Idle) are also recruited as the pack encounter various perils, including the relentless Black Knight and deadly rabbit of Caerbannog.

The BD is set to include a colossal array of bonus features including various commentaries from the cast, outtakes, educational videos, a BBC Film Night feature, photo galleries and various behind-the- scenes shorts on the different characters and their obstacles.
