Blu-ray Monday: A Dangerous Method

By | June 18th, 2012 | Tags: , , , , , , , | 46 Comments

This week we’re giving you the chance to take home a copy of David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method on Blu-ray.

Viggo Mortensen stars as the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, in this complex drama which sees him clash with protégé and friend Carl Jung (played by Michael Fassbender). When a disturbed young woman (Keira Knightley) is taken into his care, Jung finds himself questioning his teacher’s thinking.

As usual with Blu-ray Monday, you have two chances to win. For your first entry hit the tweet button at the top of this post. Then for a second entry, leave a comment on this post in response to the following question:

At the very heart of A Dangerous Method lies a unique relationship between two of the world’s most well-known thinkers. This week, we’d like to know what your favourite film depiction of a real person is and why? Do you rate Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network? Perhaps you thought Colin Firth’s Oscar winning turn as King George VI in The King’s Speech was unforgettable? Or maybe you believe Forest Whitaker’s Idi Amin from The Last King of Scotland or Julia Roberts’ turn as Erin Brockovic are as good as it gets! Either way, let us know your favourite for your chance to win!

To make it easier for us to contact you, leave your Twitter details with your comment. We look forward to your suggestions!

  1. Tom Beasley says:

    Meryl Streep’s Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady was the most dead-on portrayal of a real person I have ever seen. She literally got every single detail right.

    @BeasleyOnFilm

  2. Christopher Jones says:

    Strange for me but I think Micheal sheen’s performance as Sir David Frost in Frost vs Nixon was immense, having seen the real interview I can tell you it uncanny how similar they are, also did a great job as Brian Clough in The Damned United, but Frost vs Nixon was very real to life.

    @Artfuldigger

    Thanks

    Colin Firth was excellent as King George VI but going back a but further, a stand out performance for me was Ben Kingsley as Gandhi. It was as if Ben really was Gandhi.

    Monster the film about serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Starring Charlize Theron as Aileen & Christina Ricci as Selby Wall as her lover.
    I had seen Aileen on the news and bits of the trial on TV, Charlize, is usually a very glamorous woman playing foxy roles. This really put her acting to the test! she was brilliant scary and looked just like her @LondonBirdlucy.

  11. Becky Willis says:

    I Want A Dangerous Method to be the first blu-Ray I Own. I just bought a new HDTV And Blu-Ray Player(very first) but no money to buy a Blu-Ray disc. I’ve been renting from redbox. I hope I win!

  13. Edward Frost says:

    I think Cate Blanchett perfectly embodies Katharine Hepburn in Scorsese’s The Aviator. Sure it’s only a supporting role (one in which won her a much deserved Oscar) against DiCaprio’s equally impressive Howard Hughes impersonation, but Blanchett manages to capture Hepburn’s verbosity, her headstrong exuberance and spirited independence in a manner that looks totally effortless. It’s a really impressive stand out in a film crowded by acting talent.

  14. Tracey says:

  29. Anita says:

    Daniel Day-Lewis as Christy Brown in “My Left Foot” was tops. He’s a versatile actor who really throws himself into a role and he was Christy Brown in that movie.

    Also, Eric Stoltz as Rocky Dennis in “Mask” was remarkable. Rocky was never a person any of us had any awareness of but he really brought the story of his life to the public’s attention. It is still one of my favorite films.

    One more: Hilary Swank as Brandon Teena in “Boys Don’t Cry.” Again, another person the public never knew until his death. Hilary won the Oscar for this role and it was well-deserved.
